Welcome to the South Huntington Beach Girls Fastpitch Softball (SHBGFS) information page for the Spring Season. SHBGS is a recreational softball league that serves girls residing in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa and surrounding communities.

Our Spring Season is for girls aged 5 to 14 and registration is open from November 1 through early January. There are two easy ways to register – click on the Spring Ball registration link below to learn more.

Division brackets for the Spring season are based on the player’s birthdate and are as follows:

6U:  9/1/2017 to 2/29/2020

8U: 9/1/2015 to 8/31/2017

10U: 9/1/2013 to 8/31/2015

12U: 9/1/2011 to 8/31/2013

14U: 9/1/2009 to 8/31/2011

NOTE - If a player wishes to play UP a division, this must be indicated at time of registration,
and the player will be evaluated accordingly at the Skills Assessment Day.

A Birth Certificate must be presented at time of registration for age verification
if your child has not previously participated at SHB.

• During the first few weeks of the Spring Season, all teams will practice twice per week and play one game on Saturdays. Once DST begins, games will be played during the week as well as on Saturdays. 
• Players are drafted with the goal of creating even teams. All registered players must participate in our Skills Assessment Day so that coaches can evaluate each player's skill level prior to the draft. Players who do not participate in Evaluations will be entered into a blind draw for their respective divisions. There are no refunds after teams have been drafted.
• Regular season games will begin on Opening Day, 2/22/25, and conclude in late April. All teams will play in our league-wide tournament during the last week of April with championship games played on the morning of Closing Day. Closing Ceremonies will be held immediately after the final games conclude.
• Practices and the majority of our games are held at Edison Park, located at 21377 Magnolia Street, HB, CA 92646. For certain divisions, inter-league games against local teams (such as Fountain Valley or West Grove) may be scheduled during the spring season.
• All teams will be required to volunteer at the Snack Bar during the spring season. Volunteers must 16 or older and will be required to sign in and out for each shift. 
• Additionally, each team will be required to fundraise via various opportunities. More details will be provided by the Team Parents during the season.

For players who are interested in additional competitive play, Select Teams are a fun way to get in additional practice and games during the spring season. Select teams are formed after Evaluations and will play double headers against other competitive teams throughout the Orange County area on Sundays in addition to regular weeknight & Saturday games. Players must participate in 75% of their regular Rec Team practices and games to be eligible to participate in the Select program. There will be additional costs to participate in Select and there are no guarantees for playing time or positions. 

SHB is a non-profit league run by volunteers. Registration Fees include USA Softball membership, field rentals, umpire fees, team and individual photos, yearbook, uniforms (jersey, pants, socks), and insurance for the season. Spring Registration fees are as follows:

6U:  $180

8U:  $265

10U, 12U and 14U:  $290

We offer an optional all-day Players Clinic before the season starts for a nominal fee.

We are an all-volunteer league, and each family must have at least one member volunteer in some capacity (in addition to mandatory snack bar duty). The following positions are available on each team:

• Head Coach
• Assistant Coach
• Sponsor
• Team Parent
• Dugout Mom
• Scorekeeper
• Field Maintenance

If you would like to volunteer to serve as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, please indicate this on your player's registration. All interested individuals must complete an Application for review and vote by the SHB Board of Directors. Applicants will be notified as soon as the votes are tallied.
