The Hit, Run, & Throw Skills Challenge is South HB’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The money raised is pumped directly back into the league in the form of improvements to our fields and procurement of quality equipment for our kids. Funds raised from past events have allowed South HB to install improve our batting cages, add shade screens to dugouts, improve fencing and much more.
The Competition - All players will be participating and will compete against other girls in their Spring Ball age division in the following categories:
• Hitting: For the furthest hit (where the ball rolls to a stop) - A Flex Tee will be set up at the home plate area and each girl is given three balls to hit.
• Throwing: For the furthest throw (where the ball lands) - Each girl will be given three balls to throw.
• Running: How fast they can run from home base to home base (touching each base as they pass).
We are planning on operating our Spring Season in accordance with State and County COVID-19 guidelines. The State has indicated that revised guidelines for youth sports competition will be coming soon and we will incorporate those into our current South HB protocols that we used during our fall practice season. In the event the State and County do not allow for games, we will issue a partial refund for costs that we do not incur such as umpire fees.
We are currently planning on conducting evaluations in mid-January with practices beginning late January/early February. The dates for the end of the Spring Season will be based on information we receive from USA Softball related to their All Star rules.
State released new Youth Sports Guidance: Outdoor and Indoor Youth and Recreational Adult Sports. Under these guidelines, sports fall into different categories based on the level of contact with others. Softball falls into the moderate contact category. The State will begin allowing competitive games beginning January 25th. Moderate contact sports can begin games after the 25th when Orange County is in the Red Tier of the State’s 4 tier system. We will provide additional information as we receive it and we will revise our COVID guidelines as necessary to comply with all State and County requirements.
We have scheduled player evaluations for January 23, 2021 for 8U -14U, times for each division will be provided the week before. Uniform fitting for all divisions will take place that day as well.
